These are the exact values the MOS validator checks. The wrong pixel size or a file over 2.5 MB gets rejected, so the file we hand back is exactly 684×883.

How to take this photo yourself

We fix the crop, the background and the light for you. Three things are worth getting right on the spot, because they cannot be added afterwards.

Daylight, face the window

Stand facing a window during the day and switch the lamps off. The regulation asks for a uniform light background and natural skin colour, and a bulb gives you a yellow cast and a shadow across half the face.

Whole head in the frame

Your face has to fill 70–80% of the photo, from the crown of the head to the upper shoulders. Hold the phone at arm's length or ask someone for help, and leave a little room above your hair.

Straight into the lens, mouth closed

Look straight ahead, eyes open and not covered by hair, expression relaxed. The eye line has to be parallel to the top edge of the photo, so do not tilt your head.

The cases people ask about most

Glasses

The photo has to show the face without dark glasses. There is an exception for a congenital or acquired visual impairment: you then attach documents confirming the disability, or your own statement if you cannot produce them. Clear corrective glasses can stay as long as your eyes and pupils are clearly visible.

Headwear

By default the photo has to be without headwear. If you wear it according to the rules of your religion you can keep it, provided your face is fully visible. You then attach a statement of membership of the religious community.

Expression and mouth

Relaxed face, mouth closed, eyes open and visible. In justified cases the regulation allows a photo with closed eyes, a different expression or an open mouth.

A child's photo

The photo requirements are the same as for adults, the regulations make no exception for age. The rest of the procedure differs: fingerprints are not taken from a child under 6, and a signature specimen is not taken under 13.

Background

The regulation does not name a colour for the background. We deliver an even white one, because that passes the MOS validator most reliably. A bright wall is enough for your shot, we even out the rest.

Applying from abroad

The electronic form applies to applications filed in Poland. If you apply from outside Poland you need four printed 35×45 mm photos.

Frequently asked questions

What if the photo is rejected?

We refund you. If MOS or the office rejects the photo itself, write to us within 30 days of purchase with proof of the rejection, and we'll refund the cost of the photo.

Can I take the photo on my phone?

Yes. A plain selfie against a bright wall in daylight is enough. We handle the rest: cropping, background, and lighting.

Do I need to visit a photographer or a studio?

No. You do everything online, and you get the finished file on your phone or by email right away.

Can you make a photo for a child?

Yes. Upload a photo of the child on a plain background, looking straight at the camera, and we'll adjust it to meet the MOS requirements.

I'm renewing my card, can I reuse an old photo?

No. For a renewal or replacement, the photo must be no older than 6 months. We'll make a new one that meets the current requirements.

Is the photo the same for temporary stay, permanent stay and EU long-term residence?

Yes. Three separate regulations describe the same file: a JPG under 2.5 MB, 684×883 px, a plain light background and the face filling 70–80% of the frame. One photo fits all three applications.
